Youngevity Review
Youngevity is a multilevel marketing company that sells a wide range of health supplements, body care products, and foods. Find out everything you need to know about Dr. Joel Wallach and Youngevity today in our review.
What is Youngevity?
Youngevity is a multilevel marketing company based in San Diego, California. The company was launched in 2011 by Dr. Joel Wallach.
The company sells dozens of different products spanning multiple categories. Those products include multivitamin supplements, super powered coffees, mineral-based makeup, essential oils, and even scrapbooking materials.
The company is particularly famous for its “90 For Life” nutrition plan. This nutrition plan consists of 60 minerals, 2-3 essential fatty acids, 16 vitamins, and 12 amino acids that are considered critical for overall human health.
Conveniently enough, Youngevity’s multivitamin supplements provide all 90 of these ingredients in order to support your overall health and wellness.
What Does Youngevity Sell?
Youngevity separates its products into five different categories: Flagship Products, Health & Wellness, Beauty & Care, Food & Beverage, and Home & Family.
There are dozens of products in total, including everything from healthy chocolate to pet care products to multivitamin supplements.
Flagship Youngevity Products
Flagship Youngevity products include the 90 For Life Nutrition packages as well as various body challenges and contests.
90 For Life Nutrition
90 For Life Nutrition products promise to deliver 90 essential nutrients into your body with every serving. Those 90 essential nutrients include 60 minerals, 2-3 essential fatty acids, 16 vitamins, and 12 amino acids. Together, these nutrients ensure your bones, organs, skin, and brain are all operating at their best possible levels.
Popular 90 For Life Nutrition products include Beyond Tangy Tangerine 2.0 Citrus Peach Fusion, Ultimate EFA Plus, and Beyond Osteo-fx. You can buy all of these supplements as part of the Healthy Body Start Park 2.0. Other packages include the Bone & Joint Pak 2.0 and Athletic Pak 2.0.
Healthy Body Challenge and Transformation Challenge
The Healthy Body Challenge is a Youngevity-sponsored challenge that promises to help users get fit, gain energy, lose weight, and become healthier. Starting the challenge is easy: all you need to do is buy one of the Youngevity “Paks”, like the Healthy Body Start Park, Healthy Body Weight Loss Pak, and Healthy Body Digestion Pak. Each pack contains the 90 essential nutrients as listed above.
The Transformation Challenge is very similar: it’s just a little more structured. You register for the program and state your goals. Then, you can track your progress through the Youngevity guidebook. The Challenge is open multiple times throughout the year.
Distributor Enrolment Packs
These packs are listed under the Youngevity “flagship products” section and are simply the different packages you can buy to join Youngevity as a salesperson. They range in price from $99.99 for the Basic Package to $499.99 for the CEO Mega Pak. We’ll talk more about these packages in the “Youngevity Opportunity” section below.
Health & Wellness
Youngevity’s Health & Wellness product lineup includes multivitamins and weight loss supplements separated into four different categories.
Healthy Body Paks
The Youngevity Healthy Body Paks include dozens of different packages designed to support different health goals. There’s the Healthy Body Bone and Joint pack for $184, for example, and the Healthy Body Athletic Pak for $183. Each “Pak” contains 3 to 5 supplements specially chosen to support health goals. Most Paks include the three main Youngevity supplements: Beyond Tangerine, Ultimate EFA Plus, and Beyond Osteo-fx.
Healthy Weight Loss
The Healthy Weight Loss products offered by Youngevity include the Healthy Body Weight Loss Pak. That Pak includes the three core Youngevity supplements: Tangy Tangerine 2.0, Beyond Osteo-fx, and Ultimate EFA Plus. There’s also a fourth essential oil supplement called As Slim As Possible (ASAP).
Liquid Nutrition
Youngevity’s Liquid Nutrition lineup includes bottles of various liquid supplements like Beyond Osteo Fx, Mighty 90, and the Ultimate Classic. All of these liquids contain the 90 essential nutrients outlined by Dr. Wallach. A four pack of the 32 ounce bottles of the Ultimate Classic costs $160.
Plant-Derived Minerals
Youngevity claims plant-derived minerals are more important than ever. Our soil has been stripped of many essential minerals, which means we have to turn towards plant sources. Youngevity actually claims to have “found an area with a rich abundance of plant derived minerals dating back to the days of dinosaurs.” It extracts those minerals from the earth and packages them up in capsule form. Oddly enough, the term “Plant Derived Minerals” is actually a trademarked term for Youngevity. It doesn’t actually mean the minerals are derived from plants.
Beauty & Care
Youngevity’s Beauty & Care products diverge from the typical Youngevity health supplements. There are essential oils, aromatherapy products, and beauty products.
Aromatherapy & Essential Oils
Youngevity offers a collection of essential oils that you spread on your body. Your body absorbs the ingredients in these essential oils and you get “aromatherapy” benefits by smelling the oils all day long. There are seven different Youngevity essential oils, including Cypress, Birch, Marjoram, Lemongrass, To Be At Peace, Ravensara, and Rose Geranium.
Fashion & Jewelry
Youngevity’s Fashion & Jewelry products are part of the MK Collab fashion line. “MK” stands for Marisa Kenson, who claims to be a celebrity fashion designer. You can actually join Youngevity as a fashion distributor and just sell fashion products.
Hair Care
Youngevity’s Hair Care lineup of products includes natural conditioners, shampoos, hair butters, and hair glosses. You can also purchase packages like the Rejuvenate Hair Care System for $75, in which case you get 3 Youngevity hair care products in one.
Mineral Makeup
Youngevity’s Mineral Makeup uses 100% pure minerals to help women look beautiful. There are no harsh chemicals, dyes, or preservatives.
Spa & Personal Care
Spa & personal care products at Youngevity include masks, anti-aging systems, exfoliators, and hand washes. All products are designed to be as natural as possible. The exfoliator, for example, uses acai pulp to gently cleanse the skin and release toxins from the pores.
Food & Beverage
Youngevity’s food and beverage category includes energy drinks, sports drinks, and supercharged coffee products.
Be The Change Coffee
Be The Change Coffee includes brands like JavaFit. Coffee is priced between $8 and $24 for an 8 ounce package. The more expensive coffee – including JavaFit Impact Coffee With Mushrooms – is priced at $24.90.
Why would you drink a coffee with mushrooms? Youngevity claims that the coffee is enriched with 14 different mushroom extracts. This gives the coffee a delicious and healthy flavor.
Energy & Sports Drinks
Youngevity sells energy and sports drinks under two brand names: Rebound and Pollen Burst. The Rebound lineup of products includes fruit punch powders. The powders can be ordered in a big tub or in the form of “on the go” packets. Key ingredients include taurine, green tea extract, and energy-boosting vitamins like vitamins A, C, D3, E, B1, B2, B3, and B6. Just mix them with water and drink for an instant energy boost.
The Pollen Burst energy drinks, on the other hand, are specifically designed to target free radicals in your body using a patented formula called Bioperine.
Healthy Chocolate
Chocolate can be healthy, and Youngevity wants to prove that by offering a full lineup of different healthy chocolate products. Those products include hot chocolate packets as well as individually-wrapped chocolate treats. What makes these chocolates healthy? Youngevity doesn’t state the cacao percentage, although it claims the chocolate is made with organic cacao beans as well as the Reishi mushroom. Together, this boosts your immune and cardiovascular system while providing powerful antioxidant effects.
Wholesome Foods
Youngevity’s Wholesome Foods category consists of pre-packaged meals that have a shelf life of up to 25 years. All meals are dehydrated: just heat and add water in order to make a nutritious meal on-the-go. Some people use the Youngevity Wholesome Foods to stock up an emergency shelter, while others take the foods in their backpack during a hike.
Home & Family
The Youngevity Home & Family product lineup includes all of the miscellaneous members of the Youngevity lineup, including home and garden products and pet care supplies.
Home & Garden
Youngevity sells fertilizers and weed killers in this section. A 2.5 pound bucket of “Youngevity Bloomin’ Minerals Soil Revitalizer” sells for $16.60. You spread the powder on your grass to revitalize your soil. Just like the Youngevity nutritional supplements, these fertilizers are packed with essential plant-based minerals.
Pet Care
Pet care products include multivitamin supplements for dogs as well as odor-killing sprays. There’s even a “Real Beef Canine Joint Supplement” that promises to reduce joint pain in dogs.
Who is Dr. Joel Wallach?
Dr. Joel Wallach is the founder of Youngevity. According to Skepdic.com, Dr. Wallach is a veterinarian and naturopath. He also has some controversial views that are debated by many members of the medical community.
Wallach, for example, claims that 99% of all Americans are deficient in minerals. As evidence for that fact, Wallach cites an article called Senate Document 264. That article, however, was simply a reprinting of a speculative article published in Cosmopolitan by a Florida farmer in June, 1936.
Other controversial parts of Dr. Joel Wallach’s advice include telling stories about women in China living to be over 250 years old, or one cigar-smoking woman who lived to be 137 years old. Readers are led to assume that these women lived to such advanced ages because they took colloidal minerals (although Dr. Wallach doesn’t explicitly say they lived to be this old because of minerals).
In any case, Dr. Wallach heavily preaches the value of colloidal minerals. Dr. Wallach believes these minerals are more easily-absorbed than traditional mineral supplements. When we eat traditional foods and minerals, our body discards 90% of the content as waste, which means we only absorb 10% of the valuable nutrients.
In any case, the official Youngevity website has a slightly more positive story to tell about Dr. Wallach. That official website calls Dr. Wallach a biomedical research pioneer who “spent decades in the field of veterinary medicine observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health.” He was particularly renowned for his work on the benefits of selenium and other minerals.
Dr. Wallach also published a book called “Diseases of Exotic Animals” that is still used today by leading veterinary schools and is also on the Smithsonian Institute’s recommended reading list for Zoological Gardens and Aquariums.
Dr. Wallach may hold some unique views about minerals, but there is no doubt that he is an experienced and accomplished member of the medical community.
The 90 For Life Nutrients
Many of the Youngevity health supplements are based on the idea that 99% of Americans don’t get their daily recommended vitamins or minerals. As such, Dr. Wallach and his team have created health supplements that contain all 90 of these essential nutrients in each serving. So what exactly are those essential nutrients? Here’s all 90:
60 Minerals
Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sodium, Chloride, Sulfur, Cobalt, Copper, Aluminum, Arsenic, Barium, Beryllium, Boron, Bromine, Carbon, Iodine, Iron, Manganese, Selenium, Zinc, Cerium, Cesium, Chromium, Dysprosium, Erbium, Europium, Gadolinium, Gallium, Germanium, Gold, Hafnium, Holmium, Hydrogen, Lanthanum, Lithium, Lutetium, Molybdenum, Neodymium, Nickel, Niobium, Nitrogen, Oxygen, Praseodymium, Rhenium, Rubidium, Samarium, Scandium, Silica, Silver, Strontium, Tantalum, Terbium, Thulium, Tin, Titanium, Vanadium, Ytterbium, Yttrium, and Zirconium.
2 or 3 Essential Fatty Acids
Omega 3, Omega 6, and Omega 9 fatty acids.
16 Vitamins
Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin K, Biotin, Choline, Flavonoids (Bioflavonoids), Folic Acid, and Inositol.
12 Amino Acids
Valine, Lysine, Threonine, Leucine, Isoleucine, Tryptophan, Phenylalanine, Methionine, Histidine, Arginine, Taurine, and Tyrosine.
Why are there “2 or 3” essential fatty acids? Because omega 3, 6, and 9 are all important for the body. However, if all three were included on the list, then it would be The 91 For Life nutrients and not The 90.
